This has been a rather eventful week for the fellows over at Marvel studios tasked with the Avenger: End game movie. They had fans exited over the up-coming movie set to be released on the 26th of April by releasing a teaser of what to expect. To further give their loyal fan base something to look forward to, the released the movies official poster.

Now, as expected, with the hype that surrounds the Avengers franchise, it comes as no surprise that die-hard fans of the franchise would scrutinize every piece of information they receive. This, as it turns out, was not going to be in marvel’s favour. Despite the great effort they put in in giving their fans something to swoon over for the next two weeks, they made a gross oversite that caused a ripple effect of tongue lashing with the studio being on the receiving end.

After facing Thanos in The Infinity war, only thirteen avengers walked away to fight another day. The official poster released had all thirteen avengers in it but only top billed 12 of them. The missing avenger was Danai Gurira who plays Okoye. Granted, man is to error, but some errors are more readily forgiven than others. Seeing that Gurira plays a rather critical role in the movie not to mention that she is the sole black female avenger, it would make sense why “twittizens” would be up in arms in protest over this omission.

The studio, however, managed to save face after seven hours of taking heat for their omission on the social media platform. They released a second poster with Gurira’s name included at the top along with the twelve names initially featured. They apologized for their oversite on a tweet that read, “She should have been up there all this time”

Well, we have to hand it to Marvel studios for the manner in which they handled the situation. Instead of trying to defend their mistake, they owned it, corrected it, and apologized for it. I guess it is safe to say that the showbiz industry  does have some sober minded people in it after all.

Danai Gurira is a fan favourite in the Avengers franchise. She plays the role of Okoye, a leader of the Dora Milaje in Black Panther. She is also renowned for her role in the Walking Dead as Michonne and her role as Adenike in the film Mother of George.
